Shop History
Workin’ Gear Schools has been known by many names over the years. But always locally family owned and operated. First as Braggs in 2008. It was then located in Onslow Street, Latham. The owners of Braggs decided to retire and travel overseas after 20 years of selling school uniforms. The Clarke family purchased the business and opened under the name The Uniform Shop. After a fire ripped through the Latham Shops in 2009, The Uniform Shop moved to new premises on Luke Street, Holt, near the Kippax Fair Shopping Centre. In 2016 the Clarke Family made the difficult decision to sell the business due to ill health, and The Archer and Emmanuel families became custodians. In 2017 the shop was renamed Workin’ Gear Schools reflecting our sister store Workin’ Gear in Fyshwick. This allowed us to introduce a range of uniforms and work clothing for the big kids as well as the small.
New Adventures
In June 2019, Workin’ Gear Schools left their home in Holt and relocated to our sister store Workin’ Gear, at their Fyshwick Superstore, 51 Kembla St. In addition to offering a more central location, Workin’ Gear Schools has expanded our online store to offer real time stock levels, same day delivery and an even larger range of uniforms.
A new concept of “pop up” stores was introduced across our current schools, in conjunction with expanded service options.
We continue to be a local family owned and family run business, with the same friendly personalised service. Our range of uniforms continue to be high quality, locally sourced and ethically manufactured. Payment options in store and online now include Zip Pay, Afterpay, Paypal and regular payment methods.
We are located at, 51 Kembla Street Fyshwick, with expanded trading hours of 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday and 8.30am – 1pm Saturdays.
